Balls
Tennis balls and paddle balls have a specific diameter. They are used to carry out racket activities. Their pressures vary, as do their sizes, but both balls have bright colors to be more noticeable to the human eye.
Materials used in tennis sports balls
In the 14th century, the sport of tennis existed under the name of Jeu de paume. The game ball was a bag stuffed with hair and was propelled by the hand of the people. Rackets were introduced to this sport later.
Then, a design of a ball was developed that offered more resistance to be able to give a greater speed to the game. This new ball was stuffed with a combination of putty, hair, and wool. However, things were changing until today. Today, we know the following materials.
Deck:
These types of balls have a felt cover. Sometimes you will find this cover made of nylon or wool.
Inside:
Inside, the tennis ball has an empty center between two pieces of rubber, which are in turn covered in pressurized gas.
Differences between tennis balls and paddle balls
It is normal to confuse both balls. As you have seen, the paddle tennis ball and the tennis ball are similar. Their color and diameter are similar.
But the difference between the two begins to be noticed in their pressures and sizes.
Size:
The regulations for both tennis and paddle tennis are specific. Regarding the measurements of the balls, we noticed differences. For example, for tennis balls, the diameter must be greater than 2.5 inches and less than 2.65 inches. On the other hand, those for paddle tennis must be larger than 6.35 cm and smaller than 6.77 cm. These have one more millimeter.
Pressure:
Padel balls must have a lower pressure than tennis balls. This allows the game to go slower and makes it much more difficult to get the ball out of bounds. The paddle tennis ball must have an internal pressure of between 4.6 and 5.2 kg per 2.54 cm², while tennis balls must carry a load of 8.165 kg per 2.54 cm².
